What are the 5 “blue zones”, where living more than 100 years is not unreasonable

On the planet, there are five places that were baptized as “blue zones”: the island of Okinawa in Japan; the Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica; the Island of Icaria, in Greece; Loma Linda, California, USA; and the mountainous region of Barbagia, Sardinia, Italy.

These are places where, spontaneously, their inhabitants tend to live longer than the general average lifespan and reach adulthood with a high quality of life. In these areas, reaching 100 years is not unreasonable.

Since they were discovered, science has been in charge of establishing what their common denominator is and the conclusion was that their inhabitants not only have a natural diet because their towns have not been intervened with supermarkets and ultra-processed foods, but that the spirit, the life and spirituality are key in their centenarian lives.

The concept of “blue zones” was first coined by Dan Buettner in National Geographic Magazine. Years later, the journalist published the book “The secret of the blue zones”, on which one of the covers of NOTICIAS of October 2016 was based.
