The trend research institute WGSN together with the global color authority Coloro presented the color of the year 2025: Future Dusk.
The shade (Coloro 129-35-18) is described by the duo as “dark, moody and intriguing” with a “sense of mystery and escapism”. The color tone is particularly suitable for a time of immense change, as it takes up themes of transition.
The color’s “otherworldly” traits also fit the influence of the second space age, which can be associated with the push of science and technology and an increasingly economical exploration of space and the commercial opportunities that have arisen in this industry.
Additionally, WGSN linked Future Dusk to the growth of artificially generated creativity, aided by technology-enabled creative tools such as artificial intelligence (AI) art generators. The platform said the color comes with “immersive and transformative” tones that are reflected in the metaverse and the fantasy genre.
The color will be used primarily for classic looks and investment pieces. The hue can be read as a gender-neutral purple or an update of navy blue, according to the release.
A ‘reliable blue’ for the new space age
“For several seasons now, Coloro has seen brands shift to color palettes with long-lasting appeal,” says Caroline Guilbert, Creative Content Lead at Coloro. “Future Dusk is an inspirational color that supports this cross-seasonal approach. It’s warm and deep, which makes them appear atmospheric, mysterious and timeless.”
The hue was selected from the Coloro library of contemporary colors by WGSN experts, who based their decision on data.
“Colors that convey a sense of security will be key in 2025, and we will see captivating, dark hues gain prominence,” commented Urangoo Samba, WGSN Color Director of this year’s selection “In the near future The lines between reality and fantasy will blur more than ever – Future Dusk is an immersive and transformative color that points in this direction. This dependable blue will go a long way in fueling feelings of trust and stability, but as violet it also has an imaginative quality that will dynamically propel the creation of new futures.”
Coloro and WGSN will present their five key colors for the SS25 season in a webinar on May 24th.
