People reacted furiously on social media because WETRANSFER gathered the impression when updating the conditions gave uploaded files for training AI models. The company has now removed the reference to AI from the text and emphasizes that the working method has not changed.

“The passage that attracted the most attention was initially updated to include AI for improving content moderation and further strengthening our measures to prevent the spread of illegal or harmful content,” WETRANSfer explained in a blog post on Tuesday. “Such a function was not built or used in practice, but was considered for the future. To prevent confusion, we removed this reference.”

Use of Customer Content

In addition, WeTransfer stated in the blog post not to sell the content to third parties. “Your content always remains your property.” But anyone who agrees with the terms of use gives the company permission “to use your content for operating, developing and improving the service”.

The originally Dutch WeTransfer has been around since 2009. Last year the service was taken over by the Italian app developer Bending Spoons. That company buys companies more often and then implement changes. WeTransfer had previously had plans for an IPO in Amsterdam, but those plans were withdrawn in early 2022. The company then knows this to a difficult market for the exhibitions of technology companies.
