Wet Leg: Ex-member complains about supposedly missing song credit

Ex-member Doug Richards is upset that his alleged contributions to the band go unacknowledged.

A former member of the indie rock band Wet Leg, Doug Richards is bothered by the group’s current success. Not only did Richards not get a mention on two songs he was allegedly involved in, but the band name was his and nobody would talk about it.

Speaking to Britain’s The Times, Doug Richards revealed he co-wrote two of the band’s songs. These are said to be “Oh No” and “Too Late Now,” which appeared on the Grammy-winning self-titled debut album. “I’m afraid to bring up the subject. But I have [bei den Songs] co-written, and they’re on the album. So I should get credit for that,” Richards complained to the daily.

Richards also claims that the band name came from him. Wet Leg’s Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers attribute its origin to the merging of two emojis. A slang term from her homeland, Isle of Wright in Great Britain, is also said to be responsible for the name. According to Richards, Wet Leg was his idea. He and some of his friends had collected “crazy” band names over the years, and one of them was that one.

Richards doesn’t begrudge Wet Leg the promotion

Doug Richards was a member of Wet Leg until 2019. However, his time with the indie band ended after a seven-year relationship with singer Rhian Teasedale broke up. Today he looks back on his ex-band and ex-girlfriend with a lot of grief: “I always think: ‘Why did it have to be a number one album? Couldn’t it have been number 4 or something?’” he admitted in the interview, saying that it would be “tricky” for him to be happy for Teasdale’s success.

Wet Leg are currently on tour and were able to look forward to prominent support from Dave Grohl at the Coachella Festival 2023. They are also the opening act with Harry Styles on his “Love On Tour 2023” tour. On July 5th and 6th they open for Styles in Frankfurt’s Commerzbank Arena. Maps are no longer available.
