In the two-part HBO film “Phoenix Rising” (watch via Sky), the “Westworld” actress reiterates her serious allegations against Marilyn Manson on camera. She tells the HBO documentary team Manson brutally abused her. In the accompanying story she leafs through old diaries. “In the beginning everything was still totally okay,” she sobs and begins to cry. “By reading the diaries again, I realized what was happening.”
The widely circulated story of Manson’s abuse: According to her, he beat her, raped her, tortured her by depriving her of sleep and food, injected her with drugs and threatened her with death. All while and within an “official” relationship with Manson.
Manson’s confession had legal ramifications
Her TV confession led to a legal extension of the statute of limitations for domestic violence offenses from three to five years in the United States. The director of “Phoenix Rising” is highly regarded for this type of investigative “stuff”. She has received multiple awards for her film investigating abuse by the Catholic Church in the United States.
Wood has now confirmed to the German information portal “t-online” that her continuous shooting for the Sky Atlantic series “Westworld” gave her the necessary strength to take this step into the (media) public. With regard to the forthcoming fourth season of the series, she says that one could definitely “think freely” in the interweaving of fiction and reality.
Like her series character, she tends to “always see the good in people and in situations, for better or for worse.” Despite all the things she’s experienced, she remains a “dreamer who longs for a happy ending”.
