Shortly before midnight, the man found his daughter’s car parked by the water. Because the father assumed the worst, he alerted the emergency services. The Coburg water rescue service was used to illuminate the lake.

Then the shock: The emergency services discovered a hole in the approximately 2 to three centimeters thick ice surface and a shoe that was floating on the water surface. The rescuers reached the burglary site in a rubber dinghy, where they found a female body, followed shortly afterwards by that of a boy. Both bodies floated under the ice sheet.

A rescue helicopter was requested, but an emergency doctor could only determine the death of the siblings, who must have been in the ice-cold water for hours. The police are investigating the course of the accident. The relatives are cared for by pastors.
