Mayor Jaap Velema of Westerwolde wants to know from State Secretary Eric van der Burg why the PBL in the Ter Apel asylum center is not yet fully operational.
He and the aldermen have therefore invited the outgoing minister to come to Westerwolde and provide an explanation.
Disadvantaged asylum seekers
The Process Availability Location (PBL) will be located within the Ter Apel asylum center and is the department where underprivileged asylum seekers stay. They are subject to a stricter regime and must report regularly. This should ensure that they can cause less nuisance in Ter Apel and the surrounding area. Experience shows that this target group is often responsible for shoplifting and other types of nuisance.

The PBL should actually have been ready a few weeks ago, but the construction is stagnating. There is still nuisance. Mayor Eric van Oosterhuis expressed his dissatisfaction about this (in Nieuw-Weerdinge, a village in that municipality, there is also nuisance). The administrators of Westerwolde are now doing the same.
