The municipality of Westerwolde will receive a fund to help village houses and other organizations affected by high energy costs.
Alderman Harm Jan Kuper (CDA) announced this on Wednesday evening during the city council meeting. It has not yet been announced how much money will be put into the fund. ,,And we are still going to find out what conditions must be met in order to use it,” said Kuper.

The city council recently asked the mayor and aldermen to examine the situation in the community center ‘t Ganzenust in Vriescheloo. Their directors had sounded the alarm about the much higher energy costs.
Kuper said on Wednesday evening that it has become clear that other village houses located in municipal buildings also face the same problems and that the fund is therefore being set up to tackle the problem ‘more broadly’.
