The municipality of Westerveld will receive fifty refugees. Yesterday it was announced that all 12 municipalities in the province will receive a total of 450 refugees, from October 1 until the end of the year.
The Westerveld municipality is now the first municipality to announce how many refugees it receives. It is not yet known how many refugees the other municipalities take in. Marco Out, chairman of the Drenthe Security Region and mayor of Assen, told RTV Drenthe yesterday that there are dozens per municipality. The spots are necessary to relieve Ter Apel.
It is not yet known where the refugees will come to Westerveld. The municipality says it is in talks with a number of accommodations. Marco Out said no location will be ruled out. “Now the churches make a contribution, but that can also be hotels or holiday parks, for example. Every municipality will contact local residents if it is known and communicate further about it.”
The municipality of Westerveld asks residents if they want to contribute. Volunteers are needed to ensure that the temporary reception of asylum seekers runs smoothly.
