Westerlo crushes Ostend with 6-0

Thanks to the big win, the PhD student slips into the top six for the time being in the standings of the Belgian first division with 26 points. The coastal team does not get away from fourteenth place with 17 points.

Ostend had to chase in ‘t Kuipke just after fifteen minutes: Nene Dorgeles slipped through the visiting defense and gave Dillon Philips the check with a placed slider. Tuur Dierckx doubled the margin before half an hour after he reacted alertly to a deviated ball and let Philips grab a second time. Five minutes before the break, KVO was allowed to completely put away its hopes for a remonte: Nacer Chadli converted a penalty on behalf of the Kemphanen.

Akbunar scores last goal

Early in the second half, Lyle Foster also contributed with two hits. Substitute Halil Akbunar turned the knife a little deeper into the Ostend wound and completed the Westend six-clapper.

Later on Saturday, Sint-Truiden will play host to Cercle Brugge at 6.15 pm, while Zulte Waregem will simultaneously host Eupen in a cellar squatter.
