Westerkwartiertje – Also ordinary person (column)

Our directors are stirring on social media. One is slightly more active than the other. For example, the number of messages that Mayor Ard van der Tuuk posted on Twitter last year can be counted on the fingers of almost two hands. His last post dates back to December when he ventured into the narrow irons. “Beautiful ice here on the Marumerlage,” he writes under a self-made photo. “But also great ice on the other side of the A7 on the Niebert ice rink.” In September, five of the six board members tweeted about their participation in the Tocht om de Noord.

Mayor Van der Tuuk enjoys a rural view in his house in Niebert, which he moved into in 2021. On Aug. 12, he posts a photo of a “splendid moonrise” from his backyard. And in July another equally beautiful sunset.

Slightly more active on Twitter and Facebook is alderman Harry Stomphorst (Sterk Westerkwartier). He gives common tips. For example, on December 29, he urged his 284 followers: “Let’s keep it cozy on New Year’s Eve. Not complicated and look out for each other.”

Stomphorst has health and sports in its portfolio. That is why his call on December 27 to the elderly to join an initiative to get moving at an advanced age. On December 25, he shares his annoyance about the dumping of waste in a nature reserve near Nuis. “Sad,” he calls it.

Aldermen Marjan Sijperda and Hans Haze (both VZ Westerkwartier) are also active on Twitter. But the champions of the ‘socials’ are aldermen Bert Nederveen (ChristenUnie) and Bé Schollema (GroenLinks/PvdA). Until last year, Nederveen was at a lonely height in terms of activities. But now Schollema rivals him. Under the title ‘The Watched’, he keeps a kind of diary about his daily trade and walks, which he invariably posts on Facebook on Sunday evenings.

Schollema’s weekly insight into his agenda provides insight into the exciting character (well….?) of the existence of an alderman. He trots daily from one obligation to another. As if the man is ‘lived’. Fortunately, he is still human. In his hometown he is active at VV Middelstum. Those private concerns also do not go unmentioned in his blogs. Fortunately.
