London (AP) – Four days before the semi-final second leg in the Europa League at Eintracht Frankfurt, West Ham United messed up the dress rehearsal in the Premier League. The seventh-placed in the English Football Championship lost their home game against Arsenal 1-2 (1-1).
Goals from Rob Holding (38′) and Brazilian Gabriel (54′) sealed the Hammers’ defeat. Only Jarrod Bowen (45th) scored for the hosts. West Ham will play Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday (9 p.m. / RTL) for a place in the final on May 18 in Seville and have to make up for a 2-1 defeat in the first leg.
With the away win, Arsenal can continue to hope for a place in the Champions League. Coach Mikel Arteta’s side remain fourth in the table but have reduced the gap to third-placed Chelsea to three points. The dethroned Champions League winner of coach Thomas Tuchel had surprisingly lost 1-0 at Everton, who were in danger of relegation, and were looked after by Tuchel’s predecessor, Frank Lampard.
