West Ham confirm Rice exit | transfer market

For British record sum

West Ham United and midfielder Declan Rice announced the end of their partnership on Saturday morning. The “Hammers” confirmed that the 24-year-old would leave the club for a British record sum, while Rice himself addressed emotional words to the fans in a farewell letter. There was no mention of his goal in either statement, the 43-times England international is likely to join Arsenal shortly.

The fee is reportedly 122.7 million euros including bonuses, making Rice the most expensive purchase in the history of the “Gunners” (statistics: record transfers in the Premier League).

“I’m sorry to see Declan leaving but I believe everyone at West Ham United should be very proud of the part we played in his journey to becoming the most valuable young player in English football. I want to make it clear to our supporters that we didn’t want to sell Declan. We wanted to build our team around him and made a number of improved, long-term contract offers to secure his future. However, when Declan made it clear that he wanted to move on and seek a new challenge, the club felt it was not right to stand in his way and act in the best interests of West Ham United.”
