West Frisian Nick Doodeman teases Telstar: “This was a nice evening”

In the match between Telstar and Willem II (1-5), Nick Doodeman was the most talked-about North Holland player on the field. The footballer from Venhuizen, West Frisian, was the absolute Man of the Match with two goals and an assist.

The 27-year-old Doodeman broke the spell after 9 minutes with a corner kick in turn abehind Telstar goalkeeper Joey Houweling to shoot. “Normally we take the corners turning out. But today, with that wind, we did them turning in. Who knows, maybe someone will touch it and it will fall in. Now no one will touch it and it will hit.”

Doodeman’s second goal in particular was one worth mentioning. The right wing defender shot the ball with the outside of his foot over Houweling and into the goal. “There was a little bounce on the ball and I thought: I’ll try a volley into the far corner. I hit it perfectly.”

West Friesland

Doodeman, who previously played for FC Volendam and SC Cambuur, was surprisingly one of no fewer than three West Frisians on the field on behalf of Willem II. Erik Schouten (Westwoud) and Max de Waal (Hoorn) are also under contract in Tilburg. “I don’t know why there are so many West Frisians here. Sobriety? Maybe that is it,” said Doodeman.
