West Flemings do business with Ukraine: “the fate of people is especially important now”

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has also had a serious impact at the Eurowood company in Wielsbeke. Much of the wood they import comes from Ukraine.

“Yesterday another truck arrived here from Ukraine,” says Christophe Berton of Eurowood. “We expect 2 more shipments this week but don’t know if they will come. We know from suppliers we have worked with for years that they are on the run. We are working with them first, that is more important now.”

Transport stopped

Transport company Soncotra from Poperinge has meanwhile stopped transport to Ukraine. Deliveries were planned, including to the affected region, but that is not going ahead for the time being. Deliveries to Russia itself will still continue. Soncotra previously indicated that transport to Russia had already become three to four times more expensive.
