West Flanders loses a seat, Flemish Brabant gains a seat

The new distribution of seats is a result of new population figures on the basis of which the distribution of seats is determined every ten years. The Flemish government approved the new distribution of seats on Friday at the proposal of Flemish Minister of the Interior Bart Somers

Just like the distribution of seats in the Chamber or the Walloon Parliament, the distribution of seats in the Flemish Parliament is also reviewed every ten years on the basis of population figures. The previous ten-year period ended on May 27, 2022.

Based on the population figure on May 28 (6,729,875), there is now a new distribution of seats. Antwerp remains the largest constituency and retains 33 seats, East Flanders retains 27 seats, West Flanders drops from 22 to 21 seats, Flemish Brabant reverses from 20 to 21 seats and Limburg retains 16 seats.
