The Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) is to introduce “very severe sanctions” against Mali. This is evident from the closing statement of the Ecowas summit in the Ghanaian capital Accra. The measures come because the junta has postponed the organization of new elections. Mali’s financial resources at the Ecowas Central Bank are also frozen. In addition, all member states will recall their ambassadors from the Malian capital Bamako.
