Lawyer Inez Weski will remain in custody for two weeks longer. The examining magistrate of the court in Rotterdam decided this on Monday, the Public Prosecution Service reports.
The 68-year-old Weski, who assists main suspect Ridouan Taghi in the Marengo liquidation process, was arrested on Friday. She is suspected of participating in a criminal organization engaged in international drug trafficking and money laundering and violating secrets.
Weski’s arrest took place after an investigation into her role in Taghi passing on information from the Extra Secure Institution (EBI) to the outside world. The suspicion is that Weski acted as a conduit.
According to the AD Weski also stops defending Ridouan Taghi. That would have been announced by her lawyers. It is not yet known who will succeed her.
Youssef Taghi
Earlier, Youssef Taghi, the former lawyer and cousin of Ridouan Taghi, was arrested and convicted for helping an escape plan by the top criminal from the EBI in Vught. The court in Amsterdam imposed a prison sentence of 5.5 years on him.
Youssef’s counsel mr. Andre Seebregts suggested during the court case that his client was not the only one who acted as a conduit. He was referring to Taghi’s lawyer Weski.
Part of the House of Representatives believes that communication from the Extra Secure Institution (EBI) in Vught should be further restricted.
