Eighth nomination

Before that, Anderson had already been nominated for an Academy Award seven times. In 2001, Anderson received his first Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay for “The Royal Tenenbaums.” He was then nominated in the Best Animated Film category for “The Fantastic Mr. Fox”, again for Best Original Screenplay for “Moonrise Kingdom” and again in the Best Animated Film category for “Isle of Dogs”. He received the most nominations in 2014 for “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” where Anderson was nominated in the categories of Best Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.

Kimmel jokes about Anderson’s absence

“The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” is a production for the streaming giant Netflix. The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Kingsley, among others. The fact that the filmmaker wasn’t there himself prompted a joke from host Jimmy Kimmel. He was probably too busy “building a diorama out of cord,” said Kimmel.
