wervershoof – The brand new Olympic champion was honored on Friday afternoon in Wervershoof, the village where Irene Schouten grew up. She was greatly relieved when she and her friend Dirkjan Mak appeared on the balcony at Raadhuisplein around five o’clock to be welcomed by hundreds of fellow villagers.
