Wervershoof cries and flags en masse for the deceased Jesper (19), driver released

Many flags wave brotherly next to each other on the Simon Koopmanstraat in Wervershoof. Half mast. The West Frisian village is in mourning due to the death of fellow villager Jesper (19), who, like Hendry (27) from Hoorn, died last weekend in a horrible accident on the A7.

The call via WhatsApp to fly the flag on the day of the funeral is effective. They hang all over the village. Hecht Wervershoof cries and sympathizes with the relatives, first and foremost with Jesper’s parents and two brothers.

There is also great sadness in Hoogkarspel. Jesper was a valued employee of Philip Brand’s local fish shop and would eventually take over the shop. In one fell swoop, all future plans are gone. The always cheerful Jesper is suddenly no longer there. “I’ve never seen him grumpy,” Brand said earlier this week.

During the night from Saturday to Sunday, things went completely wrong on the A7 and Jesper and Hendry from Hoorn died in a single-vehicle accident. The third person, a 26-year-old man from Hoorn, was arrested after the accident after he had to undergo a blood test. The Public Prosecution Service reports that he is suspected of causing a fatal traffic accident while under the influence by driving at a (much) higher speed than was permitted at the scene.

He was arraigned last Wednesday. “The examining magistrate has suspended him. This means that the man is no longer in custody and can await the course of the investigation (under conditions) in freedom.”

Hendry’s funeral will take place on Monday. A small monument has now been created on the verge along the A7. There are flowers, candles and hearts.
