Controversial hit

The German international Timo Werner was eliminated with Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round of the FA Cup. The “Spurs” lost 0-1 (0-0) against defending champions Manchester City thanks to a late and controversial goal from Nathan Aké (88th). Before Ake’s goal, Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario was obstructed by Rúben Dias. The referee awarded the goal after a short review. It was the Skyblues’ first win and first goal ever at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which opened in April 2019.
Man City had previously dominated the game for long stretches in London, but could not get past the hosts’ strong defense. In Tottenham’s attack, Werner performed well. The 27-year-old, who came from RB Leipzig on loan until the end of the season, made his mark on the left side and provided a few assists, which his teammates were unable to capitalize on. Shots on goal were in short supply, especially in the first half, for the Spurs, who are once again facing a season without a title.
The other three games on Friday evening ended in a draw, which is why entry into the round of 16 now has to be decided via replays. Including a 0-0 draw between Chelsea FC and league rivals Aston Villa (0-0).
