Research

For some women, the pink cloud is disrupted during their pregnancy by persistent nausea. Some women not only suffer from the well-known morning sickness, but feel sick throughout the day and have to vomit a lot. Between 70% and 85% of women suffer from this in the first three months of pregnancy, according to the Alrijne hospital. In many women, the symptoms disappear as the pregnancy progresses.

Pregnancy ailments

Pregnancy often also involves other symptoms, such as abdominal pain, tender breasts or blood loss. For Ouwerkerk it was mainly the nausea that made it difficult for her to get through her pregnancy. “I’ve been sick twice for nine months, just throwing up,” she says in the latest WOMAN Glossy† Because of that nausea, there was no pink cloud at all during her pregnancy. “I certainly didn’t have the pink cloud that other women sit on. I just thought: shut up!” Ouwerkerk also talks about the mental toll her pregnancy took. “If you’re just sick and nauseous, it does something to you mentally. How are you supposed to like your pregnancy?”

Whistling pregnant

But, being pregnant doesn’t have to be boring. Some women get through the nine months whistling. And still other women do have ailments, but still experience pregnancy as something very beautiful and positive. So it’s very personal.
