Promoted Werder Bremen had signed three newcomers by Wednesday. More reinforcements were needed – and they came in double packs.
SV Werder Bremen announced two newcomers on Wednesday. The Dane Jens Stage joins the Green-Whites from FC Copenhagen and will travel with the team to the training camp in Zell am Ziller/Austria on Thursday. The central midfielder still had a contract in Denmark until 2024, so a transfer was necessary. According to media reports, this is between four and six million euros.
A few hours later, the club announced that the Scottish offensive man Oliver Burke would also move to Bremen. “Werder have reached a basic agreement with Sheffield United about Oliver Burke’s move. Once the final formalities have been clarified, the move will be completed. The plan is for the attacker to go to the training camp with the green-whites on Thursday morning,” it said a statement.
Return to the Bundesliga
According to the “Deichstube” portal, Burke does not cost a fee, Werder only has to make bonus payments to Sheffield. The 25-year-old can play on the wing as well as in the center of the attack. Burke already played in the Bundesliga from 2016 to 2017 when he belonged to RB Leipzig. In 25 appearances he scored one goal and prepared two more. Most recently, he was loaned from Sheffield to Millwall for six months, scoring two goals (14 games) in the second English division.
Stage and Burke are the newcomers four and five for Bremen. So far, managing director Frank Baumann has signed Niklas Stark (Hertha BSC), Amos Pieper (Arminia Bielefeld) and Dikeni Salifou (FC Augsburg).
