Werder Bremen wants to keep Ducksch and Füllkrug

Bundesliga club Werder Bremen wants to “go into the new season” with the two top scorers Niclas Füllkrug and Marvin Ducksch.

This was announced by Clemens Fritz, head of professional football and the scouting department, on “Radio Bremen”. “Both know what they have in the city and the club. But it’s crucial for us to stay up in the league, then we’ll talk to both of them,” said Fritz.

Jens Stage, the most expensive transfer of the season, is also hoping for the two top scorers to stay. “I wouldn’t say I’m worried. But of course it’s like that in football: when players do well, there’s a certain point that becomes too interested and then someone will leave,” said the Danish midfielder. “They both did a great job and scored a lot of goals. Both are top players. I hope to see them again after the summer.”

Werder’s international, Füllkrug, is still the top scorer in the Bundesliga with 16 goals. According to media reports, the contract of his strike partner Ducksch contains an exit clause that allows other clubs to sign him for only seven million euros after this season.

There has been transfer speculation about both attackers for weeks (Füllkrug) and days (Ducksch). Conversely, a potential successor is already being traded in the Polish international striker Dawid Kownacki from Fortuna Düsseldorf.
