Werder Bremen: Striker Ducksch in the focus of FC Turin

opt-out clause in the contract

Will promoted Werder Bremen have to do without the most prolific duo in the Bundesliga next season? After “Sport Bild” recently reported increased interest from England in national striker Niclas Füllkrug, his offensive partner Marvin Ducksch is said to have aroused interest abroad. Accordingly, the 29-year-old is on the list at Serie A club FC Turin.

That reports the “Bild” newspaper, according to which the Italians at Osterdeich have already inquired about the availability of the former Dortmund player. “I Granata” Ducksch has therefore focused on as a possible successor to Antonio Sanabria (nine goals in 22 league games), who was rumored to be leaving in the summer.

The Bremen right-footer, who switched from Hannover 96 to the Weser in 2021 for EUR 4 million and has more than doubled his market value since then, shone after a mixed first half of the season in 2023 with seven goals in nine games. Overall, he is the second most dangerous attacker in Werder’s ranks with eight goals and six assists behind Füllkrug (15/5) – 23 of Bremen’s 39 Bundesliga goals go to Ducksch and Füllkrug.

With this record, the two professionals from the north Germans also lead the ranking of the most dangerous duos in the league, just ahead of Munich’s Jamal Musiala and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as well as Gladbach’s Marcus Thuram and Jonas Hofmann and Freiburg’s Vincenzo Grifo and Michael Gregoritsch. Coach Ole Werner recently emphasized after the draw in Mönchengladbach that Bremen are aware of the qualities of their attacking department. “Once again, that was a blind understanding of Duckschi and abundance. This interaction is extra class. (…) If you’re honest, you have to say: They are both irreplaceable for us,” the coach summed up.

It remains to be seen whether and how the two top strikers can be kept with the green-whites beyond the summer. While new national player Füllkrug (contract until 2025) has repeatedly indicated that he still has higher ambitions in his career, but at the same time assured that Werder will always remain the first point of contact, the situation at Ducksch is somewhat different. In the contract of the native Westphalia, which is dated until 2024, an exit clause of 7.5 million euros is said to be anchored – if there is a club in the summer that activates it and Ducksch is ready for a change, the Bremen team would have the power to act not in your own hands.
