Werder Bremen receives millions in back payments – no major transfer

Baumann confirms income

After being relegated from the Bundesliga, Werder Bremen was dependent on the sale of several regular players last summer and took in a total of 33.55 million euros for Milot Rashica, Josh Sargent and Co. According to sports director Frank Baumann, this sum will continue to increase – the reason for this is performance-related additional payments. However, this amount is apparently not invested in the commitment of Pascal Groß (30), who is about to be extended at Brighton & Hove Albion.

“We still received a nice amount of back transfer payments for different players. Together with the players on loan, who will certainly be sold one or the other, we can cover most of the transfer proceeds that we have set ourselves as a goal,” said Baumann “Picture”. “In addition, we could still earn a lot in the next few years through additional payments.”

According to the newspaper, this is around 3.5 million euros, which Werder subsequently receives for unspecified sporting successes. It would be possible, for example, for Maximilian Eggestein (25) to reach the Europa League with SC Freiburg and Kevin Möhwald (28) with Union Berlin, for Ludwig Augustinsson (28) to qualify for the Champions League with FC Sevilla or for Davy to win the championship Klaassen (29; left in 2020) with Ajax Amsterdam.

Werder Bremen: Transfer target Pascal Groß before an extension at Brighton

Despite several expiring contracts with the Greens and Whites, another change in personnel like last summer is not to be expected. Due to the clarified league affiliation, the squad planning is slowly starting to roll. In addition to the surprising commitment of Amos Pieper (24), a transfer from Pascal Groß had recently been initiated. He now seems to want to stay with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Seagulls manager Graham Potter announced an imminent decision at the press conference ahead of the final Premier League game against West Ham United. “Pascal and Danny (Welbeck; ed.) are about to sign new contracts with the club. They were both great for me,” said the 47-year-old on the club page quoted.
