Werder Bremen | Njinmah faces an important decision for the future

He has long since become an important pillar for his club Werder Bremen, as he has already made 20 Bundesliga appearances in the current season. However, what will happen next for striker Justin Njinmah in the summer is still unclear in two respects.

On the one hand, there is the expiring Werder contract. Despite his many playing times, which culminated in his golden goal in the 1-0 win at 1. FC Köln last Friday, it is not yet clear what will happen to Justin Njinmah from the summer of 2024.

His contract on the Weser will then expire and the attacker does not yet have a new contract in his pocket. But it is now clear that the Werder bosses want to continue working with Njinmah.

“Justin Njinmah has developed extremely well. We will see him with us in the future,” licensed player manager Clemens Fritz was recently quoted in “Sport Bild”. Concrete contract discussions are to be held “in the coming weeks”.

On the other hand, the player himself has not yet decided which national team he would play for if he received an official invitation to a senior international match.

Njinmah could play for Germany and Nigeria

Justin Njinmah was born in Hamburg and therefore has German citizenship. However, he also has a Nigerian passport, so could theoretically play for the “Super Eagles” if he received an invitation.

Since Njinmah has no experience in any youth selections, not much is known about the 23-year-old’s likely tendency. If the worst comes to the worst, he should prefer the German association, it is said.

DFB Managing Director Sport Andreas Rettig opened the gate for Njinmah to the German national team at least once when he told “Sport Bild”: “It hasn’t gone unnoticed by us that Justin Njinmah has developed very well. The player is in expanded field of vision from us.”

According to the specialist magazine, the Nigerian Football Association has long since looked into the Werder star.
