“The best for everyone”
Niclas Füllkrug and Werder Bremen seem to have agreed on a new contract. In any case, the 29-year-old striker now held out the prospect of an early extension for pragmatic reasons: “It’s best for everyone if the topic is off the table,” said the native of Hanover (quoted via “picture“), who contributed 19 goals to the last Bremen promotion season: “It’s also a sign to other clubs and to the fans. Accordingly, it is clear that I want to and will stay at Werder.”
Most recently, “Sport Bild” reported that there were four offers by Füllkrug: one each from the Bundesliga, Serie A, LaLiga and the Serbian Superliga. The conditions that the professional put on Werder are an extension of his contract, which runs until 2023, by at least two additional years. In addition, Füllkrug would accept a salary reduction due to Werder’s financial situation, but not by 50 percent. The attacker is currently said to be earning around 2.5 million euros a year, the magazine speculated that both sides could agree on a sum of 1.7 to 2 million euros plus a success bonus in the new contract from 2023.
Füllkrug now commented: “It’s about me giving up money, which is okay with me. It’s not about earning the maximum for me. Everything is on the right track.”
