Injured in training
SV Werder Bremen will have to do without Jean Manuel Mbom for several months. The midfielder suffered a torn Achilles tendon in his left foot during training on Saturday and is therefore not available for coach Ole Werner this season or at the start of the new season, as the second division club announced on Saturday.
“I’m so sorry for Manuel. For him it is now important that the operation goes well and that he then gets all the support and time in his rehabilitation from us,” said Werner.
Mbom, who comes from Bremen youth, has been part of the professional squad since 2018, in the 2019/20 season he was loaned to KFC Uerdingen in the 3rd division. In the current season, the U21 national player has played 20 compulsory games, eight of them for the full 90 minutes. His contract is valid until 2023.
