One of the longest-serving professionals
Jiri Pavlenka has been guarding Werder Bremen’s goal since 2017, making him one of the Green-Whites’ longest-serving professionals. Given that his contract – as was recently reported – is valid until 2025, the goalkeeper question has not yet been high on the Green-Whites’ agenda, at least publicly. That could now change based on new information.
As Transfermarkt has learned, Pavlenka’s working paper ends a year earlier on June 30, 2024. Since the two substitute keepers Michael Zetterer (28) and Dudu (24) are only tied until the end of the season, Werder Stand is now without a single keeper into the coming season. A total of nine professionals are in the final year of their contracts, and the term of six others is unknown.
Reus, Müller & Co.: Most valuable Bundesliga players with contracts expiring in 2024
Since moving from Slavia Prague, Pavlenka has played 221 games for Werder, keeping 44 clean sheets. With a market value of 3 million euros, he is now one of the most valuable Bundesliga professionals who would be available for free next summer. Those responsible in Bremen still have time until January 1st to extend the cooperation, after which the Czech should speak to interested clubs and sign with a new employer for the 2024/25 season.
Regardless of whether Pavlenka wants to stay at Werder or is looking for a move, there are important months ahead for him. With the Czech national team, where he has been the goalkeeper between the posts for a year, the 31-year-old is on course for the European Championships ahead of the games in Albania (October 12th) and against the Faroe Islands (October 15th). If the contractual situation is open, the tournament in Germany in 2024 would be the perfect stage to recommend yourself for a well-paid working paper.
