Werder Bremen is at odds with the referee

Bundesliga team Werder Bremen also sees the team of referees as bringing them through to the DFB Cup.

Leonardo Bittencourt in particular claims to have identified a certain helplessness in a tricky situation when his team lost the cup at second division SC Paderborn (4:5 on penalties).

“I have the feeling that they rely too much on the video evidence that they can no longer decide for themselves,” Bittencourt said on “ARD” after the game. The background is the absence of the video referee in the second round of the cup.

In Paderborn, Bremen’s Niclas Füllkrug had scored what was supposed to make the Hanseatic team 3-2 in the first half of extra time. Referee Frank Willenborg had initially decided on goal, but revised this after consultation with fourth official Frederick Assmuth, as a Bremen player is said to have previously committed a foul.

Kwasniok announces party after cup coup

“I can’t understand them,” said Werner, who was particularly bothered by the intervention of the fourth official on the sidelines: “The referee actually has perfect vision, stands ten meters away and gives the goal. Then it’s revised again from the sidelines. I have never experienced something like that.”

Paderborn’s coach Lukas Kwasniok had a clear opinion on Werder’s complaints. “If you have 60 meters as the crow flies as a coach, then you should hold back a bit,” said Kwasniok.

Above all, the SCP coach did not want to let the cup party be taken away from him. “I don’t know how much the boys drink – I definitely drink more,” Kwasniok announced on “Sky”.
