Werder Bremen fined

Bundesliga club Werder Bremen has been sentenced to a fine of 94,000 euros by the sports court of the German Football Association (DFB) for the misconduct of its fans. The DFB announced this on Thursday.

According to a statement, Werder fans lit at least 40 Bengal fires during halftime of the game at Borussia Dortmund on October 20, 2023 – the kick-off was postponed by a few minutes.

As the game continued, another 25 Bengal fires were lit. There were further incidents in the game against Eintracht Frankfurt (November 12) and in the away game at VfB Stuttgart at the beginning of December.

The two second division clubs Fortuna Düsseldorf and Hertha BSC were also fined by the DFB. Fortuna has to pay a total of 10,200 euros because Düsseldorf fans set off pyrotechnic objects in the games against Hamburger SV, Eintracht Braunschweig and SpVgg Greuther Fürth. Hertha’s fine is only 450 euros. During the DFB Cup game against FSV Mainz 05 on November 1, 2023, Berlin supporters set off three firecrackers.
