Werder Bremen extended with top performers

Werder Bremen have extended the contract with Austrian midfielder Romano Schmid ahead of schedule, but have not announced the exact term of the new contract.

“Romano has become an integral part of our team,” said Clemens Fritz, head of professional football and scouting at SV Werder.

Schmid added: “The main reason was that we have a lot planned as a club and as a team, and I think I’m a big part of it.”

The 22-year-old moved from RB Salzburg to the Weser in 2019 and was loaned directly to Wolfsberger AC. The final transfer to Bremen followed in 2020.

So far he has made 22 appearances for the Hanseatic League in the 1st Bundesliga, and Schmid has 26 games and three goals in the 2nd division.
