Werder legend Uli Borowka could not have wished for a nicer gift. The former national soccer player, who is celebrating his 60th birthday on Thursday, watched his ex-club’s return to the 1st Bundesliga with relief and satisfaction.
“Werder is back where Werder belongs,” Borowka told the German Press Agency. Coach Ole Werner played a decisive role in Borowka’s direct return to the top flight. With him, Werder have “the right man on the sidelines,” said Borowka, who had repeatedly criticized Werner’s predecessor and especially Florian Kohfeldt.
“With Ole Werner, I trust Werder to play a good role in the Bundesliga,” said Borowka, who played for the Green-Whites from 1987 to 1995.
