Werder Bremen: Diego before the end of his career

Former Bundesliga professional Diego Ribas, who once became a fan favorite with tricks and goals at Werder Bremen, has announced the end of his playing career in Brazil.

However, the 37-year-old is keeping the option open of continuing his professional career, which began in 2002, with another post abroad after his contract with CR Flamengo ends in December.

“I will now take a few more months to decide whether I will stop completely or not,” announced the midfield strategist, who won the League Cup with Bremen in 2006 and the DFB Cup in 2009, on a special convened press conference on Tuesday.

With two guest appearances for VfL Wolfsburg, Diego was later unable to repeat his successes at the Weser and made a total of 161 Bundesliga appearances with 57 goals. He also played in Europe for FC Porto, Juventus Turin, Atletico Madrid and Fenerbahce Istanbul. He made 34 appearances for Brazil’s Selecao.
