FC Bayern and Werder Bremen actually already agreed on the transfer of Sarpreet Singh. But now the Hanseatic League seems to have backed down.
This was first reported on Sunday by the “kicker”. A little later, Werder’s head of professional football, Clemens Fritz, confirmed the club’s decision to “Deichstube”: “We have refrained from making a commitment. It’s a shame because he’s an interesting player,” said the 41-year-old leaf out.
The reason for the rethinking at the Weser is the long-term injury that the attacking midfielder is suffering from. The New Zealander suffered from pubic arthritis for much of last season.
At the weekend medical check-up at the Paracelsus Clinic in Bremen, this again weighed negatively. “We are still completely convinced of Sarpreet personally and athletically, but we don’t have the financial means to sign a player who is not directly available to us,” Fritz ultimately justified the decision against the transfer.
According to the “Deichstube” there had previously been an agreement with FC Bayern. The deal stipulated that the Bundesliga promoted pay 400,000 euros for the 23-year-old offensive player. The youngster should have signed a long-term contract at Osterdeich on Saturday.
What’s next for Singh at Bayern?
Instead, those responsible had to tell him that Werder had made a different decision. Singh then left for Munich, where he will now continue his rehabilitation.
It is currently unclear how things will continue for him there in the medium term. He should have little chance in the professional squad, FC Bayern may be looking for another customer or lend Singh again. The New Zealand international played on loan at Jahn Regensburg in the second Bundesliga last season.
Meanwhile, Werder are still looking for an attacking player for the flanks and the centre. According to “Deichstube”, Daniel-Kofi Kyereh from FC St. Pauli should be another hot candidate for the North Germans.
