Werder Bremen angry with referee Dankert

Bundesliga soccer team SV Werder Bremen was very angry about the second goal they conceded in the 2-0 defeat in Stuttgart.

VfB player Chris Führich had just been allowed back onto the field by referee Bastian Dankert after an injury break when Bremen goalkeeper Michael Zetterer played the ball into the national player’s path. A few seconds later this resulted in Stuttgart’s penalty.

“I didn’t see the player at all. On the Stuttgart bench everyone has black jackets on, the players have black jerseys. It’s extremely unfortunate. I think it’s a bit unfair,” Zetterer told the TV station “Sky”.

Werder coach Ole Werner saw it similarly: “Anyone who has ever played football at this level knows which pass comes next. If you know a little bit about how football works, then you won’t let the player back on the field .”

Hoeneß shows understanding for the anger

Referee Dankert justified his decision: “The ball was at least 30, 35 meters away from the player. The fact that the goalkeeper didn’t look up and played right into Chris Führich’s path is of course unfortunate. In terms of the rules, we can’t get there anymore .”

Serhou Guirassy finally converted the penalty. VfB coach Sebastian Hoeneß showed understanding for the anger on the other side: “It’s an unfortunate situation. I don’t need to say anything else. If Ole is angry, I can totally understand him.”
