Werder Bremen angry at FC St. Pauli after the friendly was canceled

Bundesliga club Werder Bremen has to reschedule for the upcoming training camp at short notice. The test scheduled for January 4th in Murcia, Spain, against second division club St. Pauli is cancelled.

“I would like to have more time on the pitch with the team during our training camp and work on content,” said Fabian Hürzeler on Thursday. The 29-year-old was promoted from interim coach to head coach at the Kiezkicker on the day before Christmas.

“Of course it’s very annoying for us,” said Clemens Fritz, head of scouting and professional football at Bremen. “Since a number of leagues have already started playing again or are about to do so and therefore fewer teams are on site to prepare, it has not been possible for us to find a replacement so far.”

Werder are going to the south of Spain from January 2nd to 9th to prepare for the winter. On January 8, the Bremen team will be testing against the Swiss first division club FC St. Gallen, and there will probably not be another friendly, “even if it’s not optimal, of course,” said Fritz.
