Wendy van Dijk has shocked an unsuspecting horse by jumping out of the bushes like a tiger. The horse went completely nuts. “Luckily it ended well.”
Wendy van Dijk’s daughter, 12-year-old Lizzy, is close friends with Britt Dekker. For her birthday, Britt gave Lizzy a day of horseback riding in the Veluwe, but mother Wendy was initially quite worried about it. “They would gallop in those woods anyway and you’ll just fall off your horse!”, said the SBS 6 star.

Wendy’s concerns turned out to be justified, as Lizzy did indeed fall off the horse. And who was to blame for that? Especially Wendy herself! “We had an appointment somewhere and I was sitting there with a tiger blouse in the bushes to make a video,” says the presenter in Veronica Superguide†
And then? “Lizzy’s horse thought I was a real tiger and ran. Fortunately it ended well.”
Bond with Britt
Fortunately. What exactly is the relationship between Britt and the Van Dijk-Galjaard family? “While my husband Erland and I now work with Britt on SBS 6, our daughter has met her before,” explains Wendy. “Lizzy and she shared a love for horses and a beautiful friendship developed from that.”
Isn’t Britt (30) much too old for Lizzy? “It doesn’t matter that they are almost twenty years apart. ‘I recognize Lizzy’s way of thinking,’ says Britt.”
Make dreams come true
Britt has become ‘a real role model’ for Lizzy, according to Wendy. “When she started preparing for the movie Silverstar, Lizzy asked if she couldn’t think of a role for her. Lizzy did indeed get a part and she liked it so much that she now wants to become an actress.”
Wendy is grateful to her. “Britt shows her that you can make your dreams come true. Although Lizzy still really wants a farm with many animals.”
