Well on the way to achieving ‘code yellow’ thresholds: “Threshold of 300 Covid patients in ICU is in sight” | Inland

We are well on our way to reaching the ‘code yellow’ thresholds. This is apparent from a prediction by statistician Bart Mesuere (UGent). The threshold of 300 Covid patients in intensive care is in sight. “At this rate, we will hit an average of 150 admissions by March 1 and 65 admissions per day by the second half of March,” said Mesuere. It is not yet known when the Consultation Committee will meet again. The switch to ‘code yellow’ is a political decision.

Based on his number prediction, Mesuere is very hopeful that the thresholds of ‘code yellow’ are in sight. ‘Code yellow’ is the lowest phase of the corona barometer. With code yellow, both the epidemiological situation and the pressure on hospitals are under control. There are fewer than 65 hospital admissions per day, and fewer than 300 beds have been taken in intensive care.

As soon as one of these standards is exceeded, a switch is made to ‘code orange’. In the case of ‘code orange’, action must be taken to reverse the trend again. The threshold is 65 to 150 hospital admissions per day, for intensive care between 300 and 500 beds.

“The number of hospital admissions due to Covid fell by 23 percent last week to an average of 228 new admissions per day. At this rate, we will reach an average of 150 admissions by March 1 and 65 admissions per day by the second half of March.”

“In total, there are now 3,135 positively tested patients in hospital, a decrease of 18 percent compared to last week. 338 patients are staying in intensive care, 15 percent less than last week. The number of deaths remains constant at an average of about 48 per day,” Mesuere continues.

“Last week (February 9 to February 15) there were 82,693 new confirmed infections, which is 62,905 or 43 percent less than the week before. As you can see from the bars at the bottom, we are maintaining that strong decline for a while.”

“It continues to look good. Key indicators continue to fall, although it remains to be seen whether the recent easing will have an effect in the coming weeks,” it said.

When the Consultation Committee will meet again is still a question mark. The spokesman for Prime Minister Alexander De Croo confirms to our editorial team that no Consultation Committee is planned for the time being.
