Berlin, August 26, 2022: Open the door to the world’s first flagship store from Merz b. Schwanen – the brand founded in 1911 and revived by Gitta and Peter Plotnicki in 2011. For the first time, the entire collection of authentic and sustainable basics can be bought, seen and experienced on almost 100 square meters in Berlin-Mitte, Gormannstraße 25 – in a unique store concept. The textile range is supplemented by sustainable products and special pieces from collaborations with small manufacturers in Germany and Austria – as well as by real vintage unique pieces specially selected by Plotnickis. About the new store
Whether the entire range of men’s or women’s basics, knitwear or accessories: So much Merz b. There have never been swans in one place.
The values of the traditional brand, founded in 1911, are brought to life in the store. As a lover of good, durable textiles, you can enter the world of Merz b. swans dive.
Because the focus on high-quality materials, honest production and sustainable textiles can also be felt in the store. On the one hand, this is reminiscent of the traditional factories of yesteryear. On the other hand, he takes us on a journey through time.
“With the store, we want the entire Merz b. Make Schwanen’s world visible, tangible and tangible. With everything that is important to us: Valuable care tips and lots of background information about the products, production and materials,” says Gitta Plotnicki, co-owner and creative director of Merz b. swans. Original production pieces with a museum character are also displayed on the sales floor to illustrate the history of the traditional company.
“We also see the store as a meeting place where a lot is told, shown and reported – including the more than 100-year history of the brand,” explains Peter Plotnicki, co-owner and CEO, the concept of the new store.
Traditional trade meets modern customer service
The brand not only celebrates the good old days and values tradition, but also keeps up with the times. The flagship store is seamlessly linked to the online shop and offers the option of viewing all purchases in the online customer account and will offer ship-to-store and ship-from-store in the future. Tourists can have their new styles sent straight to their homes. Customers of the online shop have the option of picking up their order in the store, trying it on there at their leisure and getting advice.
Personal contact, intensive advice, talking, exchanging ideas – about fashion, sustainability, trends and needs – that is also important to the Plotnickis in their new store, which they have divided into two areas.
Good, sustainable design: store construction and fittings
Inspired by the 1920s and the Bauhaus design, the entire GOOD ORIGINALS collection can be seen in one room, manufactured in the Swabian Jura with original circular knitting machines (loop wheelers). The second room presents all pieces of the Portuguese-made GOOD BASICS line and is reminiscent of the interior design of the mid-century era from the 1960s.
Just as sustainable as the textiles from Merz b. The Schwanen collection is the furniture in the new store: the majority consists of vintage furniture lovers, such as the original industrial clothes rails, old wooden tables and stools from production, as well as real design classics from the 1960s. The rest is carpentry work made of real wood, which Gitta and Peter Plotnicki designed themselves. The durable, genuine linoleum floor is reminiscent of old factory operations.
