Weigl believes in success with feared opponents BVB

Julian Weigl from Bundesliga football club Borussia Mönchengladbach believes in the end of the black series against Borussia Dortmund.

“BVB now has the pressure, this is our chance,” said the Gladbach substitute captain to the Funke media before the game on Saturday (3:30 p.m./Sky) against his former club.

Weigl (28) is relying on Dortmund’s uncertainty after the defeats against Munich and Stuttgart. “If we get a good start to the game, we might be able to cause a bit of unrest in the stadium. That could play into our hands,” he said.

Gladbach hasn’t won in Dortmund for nine years, but this season their form is pointing upwards. “We are in a state of change, have now found ourselves more as a team, have moved closer together,” said Weigl: “After the 4-0 win against Wolfsburg, we now want to carry the momentum into the Dortmund game.”

Weigl has been playing for Mönchengladbach since September 2022. He made his breakthrough at BVB after moving from 1860 Munich in 2015 and also scored his first Bundesliga goal – in a 6-1 win against Gladbach six years ago.
