Pascal Wehrlein concluded his complicated Formula E weekend in Hyderabad/India with a good result.
The former Formula 1 driver, who had won the last two races, finished fourth on Saturday. He was treated in hospital on Friday after a serious accident during practice, and the Porsche driver finished qualifying on Saturday in ninth place. However, he had to start three positions further back due to an alleged blocking by a rival.
The result makes him “definitely happy,” said Wehrlein on “ProSieben”: “I’m still not completely satisfied, there were a few things that we can still improve.” Wehrlein, who after four races as the overall leader has an 18-point lead over his British pursuer Jake Dennis, added that he was “still in pain” from the accident, “but you don’t notice that in the car.”
Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne secured victory ahead of New Zealander Nick Cassidy and Antonio Felix da Costa from Portugal. Wehrlein initially fell behind at the start, but kept his perspective in a turbulent race with several accidents and also benefited from a late safety car phase.
The three-time DTM champion Rene Rast in the McLaren retired after a collision shortly before the end. Maximilian Günther was 13th, Andre Lotterer ninth.
