Cologne (dpa) – The Cologne managing director Alexander Wehrle reacted with incomprehension to the recent decision of the Prime Ministers’ Conference to postpone the decision on the return of more fans to the football stadium for the time being.
“It’s absolutely not proportionate anymore. It can no longer be explained rationally,” he said, according to the Express at the Cologne talk “Loss mer schwade”. Wehrle welcomed the fact that Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund are considering legal action: “We stand side by side with BVB.”
The outgoing Cologne and future Stuttgart CFO complained about the inconsistency of the rules: “It is incomprehensible if in the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg there are 2000 of the 2100 possible spectators in a closed room and a few kilometers further in the Hamburg stadium there are also 2000, because that’s just it is the limit. Who set the 2000 in Hamburg? And who set the 750 in Cologne? And who set the 1000 in Mainz? Do they actually roll the dice?”
Wehrle referred to the efficiency of the previous hygiene concepts in the professional clubs: “If you want to rationally explain to me now that you can’t let 10,000 or 15,000 people into the stadium outdoors at a distance because that would create hotspots, then I ask: which ones Hotspots then? In the past few months we have proven that no chains of infection have developed at major events, including ice hockey, handball, basketball and culture.”
During their consultations with the federal government, the prime ministers of the federal states had decided not to allow more spectators to return to games in the Bundesliga and other German professional leagues for the time being due to the increasing number of corona infections. By February 9, however, a uniform regulation for major national events should be agreed.
