For eighteen-year-old Gwen ter Beek it was a dream come true: to shine on the farmer’s calendar. The latest calendar for 2024 was presented yesterday. “I always thought it would be super cool to be on the calendar among all the beautiful farmers.”
Twelve pages full of scantily clad farmers’ wives: Gwen ter Beek saw the famous farmers’ calendar hanging everywhere as a young girl. And that made an impression even then.
Calendar girl
“I always thought it would be super cool to be on the calendar among all the beautiful farmers. I actually wanted to participate in the selection rounds for the calendar when I was sixteen, but you can only register when you are eighteen.”
Gwen was barely eighteen when she tried for the role of calendar girl. “I officially registered for the selection rounds a month after my eighteenth birthday,” she tells NH.
Dream come true
And that turned out to be a success. Gwen, together with 14 other farmers, was chosen from 500 registrations shine on the calendar. It still fills her with pride. “Of course, it is a great honor to be chosen from so many applications: it is a dream come true.”

For the selection rounds, female farmers had to submit a photo and a video of themselves and explain their link with the agricultural sector. Not unimportant for a place on a farmer’s calendar.
Gwen’s parents own a horse breeding farm. “I ride Icelanders myself,” she says. “I found it very difficult to do, but also an opportunity to show myself and step out of my way comfort zone. That’s why I thought: I’ll just do it and see.”
Bonus models
Gwen met all the other farmers – there is also a farmer’s calendar – who shine on the calendars last night during the presentation of the 2024 edition. “That was very fun and exciting, because you didn’t know what to expect.” The group practiced all afternoon for the festive announcement of the fifteen farmers’ wives.
Fifteen models for twelve months? Gwen explains: “I am a bonus model together with another girl. This means that you are not on a month, we are on the back.”

The fun isn’t over yet for Gwen. On October 28, she will also compete in the beauty pageant during the Høken & Hakselen party, in which all farmers on the calendar compete for the title of Miss Farmer.
Prefer horse riding
Although the eighteen-year-old enjoyed all the attention and is looking forward to the beauty pageant, her heart really lies with her Icelanders. A career as a model is not her goal. “I like to participate in these kinds of things every now and then. But to be honest, I prefer to keep riding.”
