Weerman has good news for King’s Day, but King’s Night around freezing point

Good news for people who will celebrate King’s Day on Thursday. According to Raymond Klaassen of Weerplaza, that will be a dry day and the temperature can rise to 15 degrees. He told that on Sunday morning in the radio program ‘Weekend’ on Omroep Brabant.

Until King’s Day we are dealing with changeable and fresh weather for this time of year. Sunday morning it still looked friendly, with good sunny spells. “But in the afternoon the clouds will increase from the southwest,” says Raymond. “Then we will have to deal with rain again. There will also be periods of rain in the evening. The difference with Saturday is in the wind. It has increased somewhat and will increase a bit further in the afternoon, to wind force 4.”

‘The temperature will not be much higher than 10 degrees’
Monday morning, according to the Weerplaza weatherman, there is still a lot of clouds. “Then we will start the day with quite a few showers, I think. In the afternoon the sun can occasionally break through, but even then we will certainly not keep it dry everywhere in Brabant. The temperature on Monday will be a lot lower than this Sunday: 10 or 11 degrees. All this with a moderate to fairly strong west-northwest wind.”

Also on Tuesday, according to Raymond, we have to take into account several showers at a moderate temperature of about 10 degrees. “The sun will show itself a bit more often.”

‘Maybe a degree of frost during King’s Night’
From Wednesday we will have to deal with some better weather. “Then it will be mainly dry and the sun will come out a bit more often. But it will remain cool. The wind will still come from the west-northwest. It will also be 10 or 11 degrees at most.”

The nights are also on the cool side. “The night from Tuesday to Wednesday, the temperature is just above freezing. But King’s Night, from Wednesday to Thursday, we may even have a degree of frost here and there. It is dry. That also applies to King’s Day itself. the temperature will rise slightly, to 13 to 15 degrees. With cloud fields, but certainly also sunny periods.”

Start pollen season
As usual, the May holiday will also be the start of the grass pollen season. The first grasses are now gradually starting to bloom, which increases the risk of hay fever for two million Dutch people with a grass pollen allergy. Flowering birch trees also cause many complaints. About a million Dutch people suffer from this.

The weather plays an important role in the extent to which the nuisance is experienced. In the run-up to King’s Day, it is therefore cold for the time of year. This inhibits the development and flowering of the grass, so that the amount of pollen that ends up in the air is still limited. Showers also clean the air. But the showers do cause a moist soil, on which the grass can grow and bloom well.

Tips to reduce hay fever complaints:

  • Shower before going to bed to wash pollen from your hair and keep your pillow clean.
  • Wash your clothes regularly and do not dry them outdoors.
  • Keep windows and doors closed or use pollen-resistant screens.
  • Apply Vaseline to the inside of your nose so that the pollen grains stick to the Vaseline and do not end up on your mucous membranes. Vaseline can also help around your eyes.
  • Use (sun)glasses. This makes it less easy for the pollen to get into your eyes.
  • Avoid strenuous outdoor activities.
  • Choose the right plants in your garden. Avoid plants that bother you.
  • Use your hay fever medication on time (preventatively).
