You may have already noticed: the weekend newspaper of NRC is back to full strength after the summer, and has even been renewed. The biggest change concerns the first section. That always changed halfway through: in the front we responded to the current events of the past week and in the back we made room for interviews, reports and background, among other things.
The second part will have its own section: Weekend. That has several advantages. In this way we guide you better through the newspaper, and the distinction is clearer: this addition to your weekend newspaper is now the place for background, in-depth, interviews, your own research, the best photography and stories that may have nothing to do with the news. but can make your weekend more enjoyable.
Meanwhile, the other sections – Opinion & Debate, Economy, Science and Life – have also been (slightly) renewed or rearranged. Sport is no longer in the back of the Economy section; these stories find a place in the news and/or Weekend section every week. Living the Weekend is now simply called Living.
We are also introducing a few new sections. As of today, every week in the Weekend section you will find a contribution from one of the members of our journalistic interpreter quartet Folkert Jensma, Hanneke Chin-A-Fo, Bas Heijne and Martine Kamsma. We present you a weekly profile of a person in the news about whom we wanted to know more. And from now on you can also visit the Smibanese University of Specieskill, one of the most exciting social language innovators of the moment, every week.
Finally: in the table of contents of Weekend there is a sentence that you will find in that section, without us saying where. You can make it a game of search, come across the sentence by chance as you read – or simply notice what it “does” when you find it out of context.
