A busy week in our province, in which there was unrest in Coevorden, you melted away by Hitte and Meppel a new children’s café. This happened in recent days.
The anniversary edition of the TT in Assen is over. There is now silence on the campsites after the storm. Here and there another visitor walks around, but it is mainly the campsite managers who have to work this week.
“We are certainly busy for a week and a half to bring everything back,” says one of them. It is cleaned up, burning spots are sown and the temporary facilities disappear from the site again.
The heat had the province firmly in its grip. The Warmest July 1 ever was measured on Tuesday. People were looking for massive cooling. The KNMI called off code yellow and the National Heat Plan was put into operation.
Due to the tropical temperatures, several organizers decided to cancel their events. “Health leads,” it sounded. And not only for people is cooling important, but also for animals they know in Wildlands.
In the Tuindorp district in Coevorden it got out of hand this week. Residents strongly protested against the arrival of fourteen minor status holders. An emergency ordinance was announced on Wednesday evening, which, among other things, forbade fire to fire. The ME was deployed on Thursday evening and on Friday the municipality of Coevorden drew the plan to place fourteen minor status holders in the neighborhood.
“The heavily -emanatory argument is that we cannot guarantee the safety of these girls,” said Mayor Renze Bergsma van Coevorden. “I highly define that people, also from outside Coevorden, use arson and intimidation to make their point.”
In between, attention was also paid to a striking new meeting place in Meppel: a children’s and theater café on Kerkplein. The playground is central, surrounded by sitting places for parents.
“Parents want to go somewhere where they can relax themselves while the children can play safely,” says initiator Femke Spijkerman. The café offers games such as goose board, duplo and LEGO. A crib is even available for the little ones.
The concept is new to the region, but according to the owners works well. “In the West you see this before, but for Meppel it is really a supplement.”
