In May 1810 the Buenos Aires City Council summoned the residents to the open council, and before the mobilization and the popular petition, he forced himself to Viceroy Cisneros to resign and the first autonomous government junta was formed, made up mostly of Creoles. This political act was also carried out in other American spaces, before the fall of Spain into French hands, after the king’s prison Ferdinand VII and of the Regency Council.
The revolutionaries of 1810 They wanted to choose their own authorities, manage their economy and have legal equality with Spain, but there were two different projects. Some thought their own government within a constitutional and federal monarchy without ceasing to depend on the king. Others, on the other hand, wanted to become independent. The revolutionary process began a war process and transformed society, expanding rights and freedoms, while the dimension of the war grew, which ended up being for Independence.
Remembering that historical feat, the National historical museumlocated at Defensa 1600, invites you to celebrate the May revolution with various free proposals, starting on Thursday the 25th and ending on Sunday the 28th of May. On the national day, at 11:30 a.m., you can take a guided tour of “Time of Revolution”. The historical exhibition, in which the original revolutionary petition is found, proposes a new look to understand a founding stage of Argentine and American history.
On the same day, in the afternoon, the Music Band of the Argentine Naval Prefecture It is presented at 3:00 p.m., in the courtyard of the Museum and its famous repertoire will be played (It is suspended due to rain). Next, the “Workshop for children: What do you see when you see me? Symbols for the revolution. Focused on children, the activity invites them to discover the meanings and ways in which they traveled through time and create their own revolutionary symbols.
On Friday 26, Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 May, the guided tours will continue at different times. Starting at 11:30 a.m. the first shift and, in the afternoon, the second shift starting at 3:30 p.m. A way to rediscover Argentine history as a family, more than two centuries after the first national government and national emancipation.
